Essential Oils: Can you ever have enough?

November 17, 2016

Admittedly, I have a LOT of essential oils.

Why? What do I use them for?

I use them for their metaphysical properties (think inner strength, self love, dreaming). And I also use them for their anti-bacterial properties (think hand sanitizer and air purifying capabilities). And yes, I use them as perfume.

I have a secret stash where I carry 8 mini bottles of oils with me at all times. They are great to have on hand for specific instances: a headache shows up, anxiety kicks in, a fever blister pops up.

And if you've taken a yin yoga class with me, you have experienced many different oils for yourself.

Curious? Here's a 2015 article from The Atlantic. It speaks about the power of essential oils and highlights some of the research on essential oil benefits, reminds us that many pharmaceutical and over-the-counter products are based in or have plant essences contained in them, and offers up some pretty big "what if" questions related to disease.

Essential oils make great gifts for yourself or for someone you love. If you have an open mind, you will want to connect with these beauties. I have a few available on my web site for sale.

Here's what you need to know about oils in case you want to buy:

  • There are no regulations in the industry, so marketing claims can be misleading.

  • If the oil is inexpensive, be worried that it has been combined with another oil, which is fine for scent, but not for therapeutic-grade properties.

  • If the oil is on sale, be worried that it has not been stored properly. Oil should be stored out of direct sunlight, in dark glass containers, and at normal home temperatures. I'm suspect of purchasing oils through Amazon also because we know that their warehouses run very hot.

If you are under a physician's care, please consult with him/her before adding essential oils to your regimen.
